Songbird Live Presents: LaPompe
A Little Bit Gypsy - A Little Bit Frenchy -
And A Whole Lotta Swing!
Named afer the driving rhythm characteristic of French gypsy jazz, the band is known as La Pompe! Led by multi-lingual vocals, this swingin' bunch of cats bring the best of French wartime classics, American jazz standards and gypsy instrumentals. Another great new experience at the Songbird on August 18th.

Songbird Live is transported to prewartime France of 1934 . The scene is a French Bistro in southern France, somewhere near Nice. The country has been peppered by Hitler's henchmen as trouble percolated in the atmosphere. But Résistance is in the air. Country neighbors gather at a smoky cafe to remember good times, good food and a time of abundance. Strains of music fill the air - happy music - lively jazz. Is it American jazz? Is it the pounding, driving gypsy music remembered from happier days? All you know is that it feels good. A snapshot of a joy that Frenchmen haven't felt in a long time. The band is a mixture - a gypsy musician playing a mandolin and a guitarist pounding "la Pompe" style guitar of gypsy music that includes a rhythm that sounds like American jazz. There is this beautiful, vibrant, gregarious lady singing strains of traditional and new music, in both french and English.
